The U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, U.S. Navy Ceremonial Band, and the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Caisson Platoon conduct modified military funeral honors with funeral escort for U.S. Navy Lt. Demarest Lloyd in Section ML at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, August 26, 2020. This was a memorial service as Lloyd’s remains were never recovered.
Lloyd was a World War II veteran who died on June 12, 1944, reported missing at sea. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and Air Medal during his service. Lloyd’s daughter, Tangley Lloyd, received the U.S. flag from his memorial service.
