Soldiers with the Louisiana Army National Guard saw through fallen trees and remove debris to restore critical transportation access for residents near Lake Charles, Louisiana on Aug. 28, 2020. The town was flooded due to heavy rain and storm surges caused by Hurricane Laura. Governor John Bell Edwards declared a State of Emergency in advance of the hurricane's projected path and called up the National Guard to support state and county emergency management agencies and local first responders.
