Lt. Col. Charles C. Springer, commander of 2nd Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Ohio Army National Guard, addresses his Soldiers for the last time as their commander, as he relinquishes command to Lt. Col. Lester W. Alan during a ceremony Aug. 22, 2020, in McConnelsville, Ohio. The battalion currently operates the Avenger Air Defense System, a self-propelled surface-to-air missile system that provides mobile, short-range air defense protection for ground units against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, low-flying fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
