A Soldier’s pulaski tool is buried in a burned out stump during mop-up operation at the August Complex wildland fire Sept. 4, 2020, in Mendocino National Forest. Soldiers with the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion are conducting mop-up operations to remove burning or hazardous material to help ensure the wildfire does not reignite in previously burned areas. Soldiers are deployed to Northern California at the request of the National Interagency Fire Center in support of the Department of Defense’s wildland firefighting response operations where they work side-by-side with professional wildland firefighters.
