John Cates, 20th Equipment Maintenance Squadron armament support member and a native of Rockwood, Tenn., uses a blue band to stretch his leg and thigh during a physical therapy session at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., July 23, 2012. According to Maj. Justin Martin, 20th Medical Group physical therapy flight commander and a native of Fairfield, Idaho, physical therapy restores long term function and prevents future disabilities. Therapy could include therapeutic exercises, functional training, deep soft tissue massage, and physical modalities such as electrotherapy and ultrasound which are pain-controlling treatments.
