During a convoy to Patrol Base Sre Kala, an unexpected sandstorm halted the Alpha Co. Marines and sailors for nearly 36 hours. Marines and sailors of 1st LAR conducted counterinsurgency operations under the leadership of Regimental Combat Team 5, during their seven-month deployment in Khan Neshin district.
