Recently retired Lt. Col. James Mann, Arkansas Army National Guard, cheers as he crosses the finish of the Omaha Marathon, Sept. 20, 2020, in Omaha, Nebraska, after completing the 13.1-mile half-marathon distance. The Lincoln Marathon in May 2020 was supposed to be the last for the long-time National Guard Marathon Team runner, and Arkansas running coordinator, while also still in uniform. When the National Guard Time Trials were rescheduled to the Omaha Marathon after the annual Lincoln Marathon was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mann was excited for a fifth decade of running with the team, but plans to attend the Lincoln National Guard Marathon in May 2021 as a full-fledged retiree looking for redemption.
