Senior leadership for Joint Base Lewis-McChord sign an Education of Military Children Covenant during a groundbreaking ceremony, July 30, signifying the official start of a yearlong construction project to completely rebuild the JBLM's Hillside and Carter Lake Elementary Schools. The Department of Defense deemed the schools two of the top five in military communities across the U.S. in need of immediate attention during a nationwide assessment that justified a $250 million addition to the fiscal year 2011 department appropriations bill to fix the schools.
