U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey R. Pyatt, and other distinguished visitors discuss mission capabilities with special operators from Naval Special Warfare during their visit to the Marathi NATO Pier Facility on the island of Crete, Greece, on Sept. 29, 2020. These special operators are training in the local area of Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, which provides logistical support for the team. U.S. Special Operation Forces depend on the special warfare combatant-craft crewman community for maritime insertion and extraction on time, on target, worldwide. SWCC are an indispensable part of the NSW team, as they operate and maintain high-speed craft specifically designed to execute SEAL missions. NSW maritime platforms are equipped with state-of-the-art navigation, communications, engineering, and weapons systems. They operate day and night in extreme weather and sea states to achieve the ultimate element of surprise against enemy forces. NSA Souda Bay is an operational ashore base that enables U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to be where they are needed and when they are needed to ensure security and stability in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
