200930-N-XG173-1117 INDIAN OCEAN (Sept. 30, 2020) Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Darius Clark, from San Diego, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), signals to the pilots of an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter from the “Vipers” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 48 during a refueling on the flight deck in the Indian Ocean, Sept. 30. John Paul Jones is part of Nimitz Carrier Strike Group and is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three critical chokepoints to the free flow of global commerce.
