Col Dena Dietzler, outgoing commander for the 109th Multifunctional Medical Battalion, receives the Meritorious Service Medal during her change of command ceremony on Aug. 29, 2020, in Iowa City, Iowa. Col. Eric Rant, commander of the 67th Troop Command, presented the award to Dietzler for her leadership during the state’s COVID-19 response. The ceremony marked the first time in Iowa Army National Guard history that a female battalion commander was succeeded by another female.
