U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron conduct aerial refueling missions aboard a U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker with a Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet from the “Fighting Redcocks” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 22 over the U.S Central Command area of responsibility during a mission in support of Operation Inherent Resolve Oct. 2, 2020. VFA-22 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 17, deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), flagship of Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. The F/A-18 Hornet is designed to perform fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses, air interdiction, close air support and aerial reconnaissance.
