LtCol Joseph Freshour, the commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, promoted Maj Danny Sorrells aboard Her Majesty's Ship Queen Elizabeth at sea on 01 October, 2020. Sorrells, an F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter pilot, is the officer in charge of the department of safety and standardization for the "Wake Island Avengers". VMFA-211 is one of two operational squadrons operating the F-35B Lightning II assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. Their mission is to support the MAGTF Commander by destroying surface targets and enemy aircraft, day or night under all weather conditions during expeditionary, joint or combined operations
