Lieutenant Colonel (Oberstleutnant) Gerhard Glomb, German Armed Forces Officer in Charge, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, speaks to the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (GAFPB) participants at the GAFPB closing ceremony on 3 Oct., 2020 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
The German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (GAFPB) is one of the few foreign awards authorized for wear on United States Army Soldier’s dress uniform. Soldiers had to perform a basic fitness test featuring 11 shuttle sprints at 10-meters, a timed flexed-arm hang, and a 1,000 meter sprint. After the basic fitness test, Soldiers completed a Combat Swim that included a 100 meter swim in the Army Combat Uniform and removed that uniform upon completion while still treading water. The road march event of the GAFPB is a 12-kilometer ruck march carrying minimum of a 35-pounds performed in less than two hours. The German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge concluded with a weapons qualification event. A GAFPB competitor must have successfully passed the pistol marksmanship test to earn the right to wear foreign award.
