Indian Island was selected for the award due to advancing technology and environmental sustainability, maintaining a diversity of mission-critical operations and providing comprehensive support to service members. Indian Island is the U.S. Navy’s only deep-water ammunition port on the West Coast, where the installation can provide conventional ordnance support to vessels ranging from destroyers to submarines and aircraft carriers.
