Interior view of the observation floor of the six-story Fire Control Tower No. 23 located in Lower Township, N.J., Sept. 3, 2020. The tower, which was built in 1942, was one of 15 observation towers located from North Wildwood, N.J. to Bethany Beach, Del., as part of the Delaware Bay harbor defenses used to aim coastal artillery batteries at German ships and submarines. The tower was added to the National Register of Historic Places Nov. 17, 2003. After being renovated in 2009, it was opened as a museum and memorial.
