U.S. Army Aviation Battalion-Japan forward deployed three U.S. Army UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters from Camp Zama to Kadena Air Base on Oct. 23, to participate in exercise Orient Shield 21-1. The battalion self-deployed several key maintenance and personnel to ensure they could conduct successful operations forward. Soldiers took extra precautions during the deployment due to COVID-19 to protect themselves and the community during movement. This training opportunity allows USAAB-J to validate and extend their operational reach into the southwest Japanese archipelago islands. USAAB-J is a key player to U.S. Army training objectives and Join/Bilateral activities in the Indo-Pacific region. Orient Shield 21-1 is the largest U.S. Army field training exercise in Japan that tests and refines multi-domain operations.
