Col. William Ray, 18th Maintenance Group commander, was awarded the Bronze Star for his work with the 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Group in Afghanistan, Sept. 14, 2020, Kadena Air Base, Japan. The 455th EMG provides combat ready aircraft and munitions to the wing, supporting coalition forces throughout Afghanistan. The group comprises of two squadrons responsible for aircraft maintenance and sortie generation, as well as launch, recovery, and service support for military and commercial transient aircraft.
