This Veteran’s Day, service members past and present came together to make a difference in civilian lives. U.S. Air Force physicians, left to right, Maj. Jacqueline Brown, M.D., Capt. Sarah Schall, M.D., and Lt. Col. Charles “Brock” Miller, M.D., discuss their patients with Harold W. Hughes, M.D., at the University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 11, 2020. Hughes is a retired U.S. Army critical care doctor, now assisting these physicians on Veteran’s Day as they acclimate to assisting a hospital experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. These physicians, among approximately 60 service members, are working jointly with the civilian hospitals to assist in the mitigation of the virus and help citizens in need. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in support of the whole-of-America COVID-19 response.
