The Park is part of Washington Crossing, a U.S. National Historic Landmark area. Gen. George Washington and the Continental Army crossed the Delaware River on the night of Dec. 25, 1776, and landed at Johnson’s Ferry during the Revolutionary War. They then marched to Trenton where they defeated the Hessian troops. The succeeding Second Battle of Trenton Jan. 2, 1777, also known as the Battle of the Assunpink Creek, and the Battle of Princeton Jan. 3, 1777, are considered the "Turning point of the American Revolution."
