SAN DIEGO (Dec. 3, 2020) Cmdr. Monica Lutgendorf, Naval Medical Center San Diego’s (NMCSD) Maternal Fetal Medicine department head, poses for an environmental portrait in an exam room Dec. 3. Lutgendorf was named as the next chairperson for the OB-GYN department at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. She is the first female to ever hold this position, and the first Sailor to hold the position since 1992. NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
