Lt. Col. Joseph Dewey, assigned to I Corps, U.S. Army, discusses plans for the bilateral counterattack with his Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Western Army counterparts during Yama Sakura 79 at Camp Kengun, Japan Dec. 10. The Yama Sakura scenario tests and refines multi-domain and cross-domain concepts in a simulated environment in the defense of Japan. Yama Sakura is the largest bilateral and joint command post exercise led by U.S. Army Pacific and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force which enables both forces to train against a realistic scenario that tests the capabilities and interoperability required to fulfill obligations under the mutual security treaty and maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
