201227-M-UV498-1566 INDIAN OCEAN (Dec. 27, 2020) – A U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares to land aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) after conducting a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel rehearsal at Baledogle Military Airfield, Somalia. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 15th MEU conduct operations under Joint Task Force – Quartz in support of OOQ. The mission of OOQ is to relocate U.S. Department of Defense forces in Somalia to other East Africa operating locations while maintaining pressure on violent extremists and supporting partner forces.
