Soldiers with the 164th Air Defense Artillery Brigade conduct Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction and Evaluation (PMI&E) with the M4A1 during drill on Sunday, January 10, 2021, in preparation for the Army’s overhauled marksmanship qualification. The training consisted of familiarization and evaluation, known as Tables I and III. While not new to Individual Weapons Qualification (IWQ), this new test simulates combat situations more effectively than the previous IWQ by limiting recovery time while targets are moving. Released in July 2019, “TC 3-20.40 Training and Qualification-Individual Weapons,” or “Dot-40” overhauls marksmanship qualification in order to simulate a more accurate live fire situation.
