A recruit division tosses an imaginary grenade at another division while marching in formation at Recruit Training Command. Once a division passes their first drill inspection, their recruit division commanders are authorized to teach trick drill, such as tossing grenades, launching torpedoes, or to the winds. Trick drill is used to motivate recruits and enhance esprit de corps. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Seaman Apprentice Michael Cintron)
