Chief Elijah Bouie, the chief of police for Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, delivers the keynote speech during a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. remembrance ceremony hosted at the base chapel at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, on Jan. 14 2021. The ceremony was held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the sacrifices he made for equality during the civil rights movement in the 1950s, until his assassination on April 4, 1968. Dr. King’s legacy is honored every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Dr. King. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year. King's birthday is January 15. (U.S. Marine Corps photo taken by Lance Cpl. Michael Neuenhoff).
