Building H-1 is located along the banks of the New River at Hospital Point on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. Originally built between 1942 and 1943 as U.S. Naval Hospital New River, it was redesignated as U.S. Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune on Nov. 1, 1944. In the late 1980s, the building was repurposed to be the headquarters building for II Marine Expeditionary Force and 2nd Marine Division upon the completion of a new medical facility at Paradise Point. As the current site of the II MEF and 2d Marine Division headquarters, H-1 is scheduled for demolition in 2026 along with nine other associated structures after the new II MEF Headquarters is constructed in 2024 and the 2d Marine Division headquarters is renovated in 2025.
