Two U.S. Army Aviation Battalion-Japan UH-60L Black Hawks took off from Kastner Army Heliport on Feb. 2 to conduct deck landing operations with the USS Benfold (DDG-65). During the training the Black Hawks qualified and extended currency for twelve aircrew members while also training “Hot Pump” operations with the ship by receiving a refuel. After completion, the Black Hawks transported two Navy service members back to shore culminating the event. Both helicopters completed several landing and takeoffs guided by Sailors on the flight deck while communicating with the control room abroad the Benfold. These qualifications maintain readiness between both services and increase joint interoperability required to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. (U.S. Army photo by Maj.
