Equal Opportunity Leaders from 23 states and territories met their Equal Opportunity Advisors to complete the six day EOL course at the National Guard Professional Education Center, 13-18 December 2020. The course provides a network of Soldiers throughout the National Guard who are tasked with providing a resource for communication and command action when Soldiers are discriminated against. The training consisted of lectures, guided discussion, student lead classes, and activities that forced confrontation with personal biases.
In one activity Soldiers played “Win As Much As You Can” a card game meant to demonstrate the power of teamwork, trust, and effective communication.
“Equal Opportunity Leaders working under their Equal Opportunity Advisors in an additional duty capacity are the front line sensors to detractors that corrode unit readiness, cohesion, and the commander's ability to shape a combat ready force. The Equity and Inclusion program doesn't wait for rules to be broken. The program thru the deployment of Equal Opportunity Advisors and Equal Opportunity Leaders seeks to promote healthy behaviors thru education, Special Observances, and Policy. It is the goal of this program to implement strategies to stay healthy in an effort to prevent the fatigue of a Soldier having to work in an environment that is toxic,” said Master Sgt. Joe Thibault, NGPEC Equal Opportunity Advisor.
