U.S. Army Japan senior leadership visits Camp Itami, JGSDF Middle Army Headquarters during Tomodachi Rescue Exercise Feb. 12. During the visit Col. Jonathan D. Haight, U.S. Army Japan deputy commander, met with Lt. Gen. Shin Nozawa, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Middle Army commanding general, to discuss current and future bilateral training exercises like Tomodachi Rescue Exercise, Orient Shield 21-2 and Yama Sakura 81. The USARJ contingency command post is currently deployed to Camp Itami and is providing command and control for several U.S. Army ground elements participating in the Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief response exercise Tomodachi Rescue.
