Manuel Cruz, crew chief with Alpha Company, 1-82nd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade, salutes the pilots of an AH-64 Apache helicopter before they take off from an airfield in the 28th ECAB's area of operations in the Middle East. Unlike in other Army helicopters, a crew chief does not fly in an Apache after conducting pre-flight checks. After guiding them out of the airfield, they salute the pilots and then await their return.
