AV-8B Harriers with Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 542 conduct a fly-over during a ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, March 5, 2021. The Marines of VMA-542 celebrated the 77th anniversary of their squadron being formed with a ceremony that focused on the squadron’s history as well as rededicating each Marine to service to the United States. VMA-542 was established during World War 2 and has seen service in each major conflict the United States has taken part in to include counter-insurgency operations to Iraq and Afghanistan and more recently against ISIS. The squadron will be deactivated in fiscal year 2022 as part of Marine Corps’ force redesign plan. VMA-542 is a subordinate unit of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is the aviation combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Damaris Arias)
