Marvel Crosson was born in Warsaw, Indiana in 1900. In the early 1920s Marvel and her brother Joe purchased, rebuilt and restored their first plane-lighting their passion for aviation. In 1925 she joined her brother in Alaska and received a limited commercial licence making her the first licensed female pilot in Alaska. She was one out of the 70 female licensed pilots in the states at that time. During her time in aviation she broke an altitude level of 23,996 feet and in 2011 she was inducted into the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame.
