U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joanna Bradshaw, UH-60 pilot with Alpha Company, 1-137 Assault Helicopter Battalion, 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade, sits on top of a UH-60 Black Hawk at an airfield in the 28th ECAB's area of operations in the Middle East.
Bradshaw enlisted in the U.S. Army to grow as a person, gain job and life experience and broaden her horizons. She said the Army National Guard seemed like a perfect opportunity for that.
Bradshaw said women's history month means a lot to her because her predecessors created opportunities that changed her life and inspired her.
"The military, like our nation, has tremendous diversity. It’s good to be able to positively focus on the aspects of those differences that make us stronger as an organization", said Bradshaw. "Women’s History Month is a chance to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of female pioneers in their respective fields. My personal heroes include Hedy Lamar, who invented frequency hopping in WW2, Marie Curie, a pioneering chemist, and Sally Ride, astronaut and physicist.
Bradshaw said her favorite part of being in the U.S. Army is being able to travel from South America to the Middle East, having college paid for and having different jobs while being an enlisted Soldier.
After deployment, Bradshaw plans to travel to Europe and relax with family, to include her niece who will be born in June. Her favorite food is popcorn and she loves the movie The Emperor’s New Groove.
