The Commanding General of First Army, Lt. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr., First Army Deputy Commanding General for Operations, Maj. Gen. Troy D. Galloway, and Command Sergeant Major of First Army, Command Sgt. Maj. John P. McDwyer, lay a wreath and pay respects at the gravesite of SSGT Waverly Woodson at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, March 29, 2021. Woodson served under First Army as part of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion’s medical team who hit Normandy Beach shortly after 0530 the morning of 6 June 1944. Woodson was cited for bravery, attending to 40 to 60 Soldiers as well as saving wounded men from drowning, all after being wounded himself.
