U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Amiee Fernandez, a Miami native and medical logistician with the 88th Medical Support Squadron, 88th Air Base Wing stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, poses while waiting to deliver vaccines at the state-led, federally-supported Ford Field Community Vaccination Center in Detroit, April 6, 2021. Fernandez is part of a group of Airmen assigned to 1st Detachment, 64th Air Expeditionary Group who are assisting with the vaccination efforts. Her main responsibility is supporting the local community members by observing any reactions they may have after receiving the vaccine. Fernandez said, “Due to COVID, I have definitely been more cautious around life in general.” To her family back home, she said, “I think it’s possible to make it out of this global pandemic. We just have to get at it.” Fernandez is excited to provide a helping hand to the community of Detroit. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
