DAHLGREN, Va. - A threat missile in various states of damage to include damage to the missile’s wing, tail fin, aft body fin and forward nose sections is illustrated in this computer-aided design. Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division threat engineers in collaboration with West Virginia University are performing research and analysis to predict the aerodynamics of damaged states systems to produce prototype research methods and simulations. The Damaged State Modeling of a Post Intercept Threat Program endeavors to provide the Navy with a new capability to evaluate true weapon system effectiveness during every engagement scenario – enabling warfighters to take action while ensuring the damaged missile does not strike their ship.
