U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the Florida Army National Guard 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team wait to be interviewed by medical workers at the Tirana International Airport May 15, 2021, in Tirana, Albania. Early identification of symptoms is just one of the COVID mitigation measures that will be observed as the 53rd IBCT participates in DEFENDER-Europe 21 exercises alongside host nation soldiers here in Albania.
DEFENDER-Europe 21 is a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between the U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries. This year, more than 28,000 multinational forces from 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas in more than a dozen countries from the Baltics to the strategically important Balkans and Black Sea Region.
