Col. David Meissen retires during a ceremony held on the Alaska National Guard armory drill hall floor on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson May 19. Meissen is retired after over 25 years of service in approximately ten different locations. He is originally from Springfield, Illinois, and commissioned in 1995 from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. His final assignment to the Alaska National Guard was as the Inspector General, Joint Force Headquarters from Sept. 17, 2017 to present day. During the ceremony, Meissen was presented with a Certificate of Retirement, Presidential Letter of Appreciation and Certificate of Appreciation from the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, which were presented to him by Maj. Gen. Torrence Saxe, the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard. Meissen’s wife also presented him with a retirement pin, and was herself presented with a Spouse Certificate of Appreciation from the Air Force Chief of Staff, and a Spouse Certificate of Appreciation from the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force.
