U.S. Marine Corps Capt. David Fickle (Left), a pilot with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, performs a pre-flight inspection before boarding a UC-35D Cessna at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, May 18, 2021. Fickle flew for the last time in a UC-35D Cessna before retiring after 20 years of service, four years as an enlisted Marine and 16 years as a Marine officer. The Marine Corps’ history in aviation began 109 years ago with Lt. Alfred A. Cunningham. Fickle gives us his thoughts on being part of Marine Corps aviation history. “It’s all about our history, going back to the time of A. A. Cunningham and being a part of that lineage gives me a lot of pride.” said Fickle. “Looking back at our roots of aviation and how the Marine Corps employed aviation for its mission, it gives me a lot of pride to be part of it.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo Sgt.
