U.S. Marines with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), utilize an M4A1 to provide security during an embassy reinforcement exercise in support of MEUEX at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, on May 20-21, 2021. The exercise was a training to help strengthen unit readiness in response to a range of possible crisis scenarios. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
