Melissa Herrera, a U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, D.C., hold a framed portrait of her brother, El Paso County Deputy Sheriff Peter John Herrera, who was killed in the line of duty March 25, 2019, and is shown during the ceremony held by the Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association on May 26, 2021, on the campus of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Herrera was a guest of honor for the event which had personnel from all three components of U.S. Customs and Border Protection represented along with a multitude of other law-enforcement agencies.
