Sgt. Patrick Sunderman, a Farmington, Minnesota native who is a marksmanship instructor/competitive shooter for the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, earned a spot on Team USA's Men's 50m Smallbore Team after completing Part 2 of the Olympic Trials at Fort Benning, Georgia on May 26, 2021.
This Soldier claimed his Olympic berth with the combined score (from Part 1 and Part 2 Trials) of 4706-249x. The 50m Smallbore event is also referred to as Three Position rifle since the athletes must fire 40 rounds in the kneeling, prone and standing positions in two days of qualification rounds. Then, the top eight athletes shoot in a Final.
