U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment load a Utility Task Vehicle into a CH-53K King Stallion helicopter for an air assault training exercise at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 10, 2021. The Marines executed an air assault operation in support of Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 to test the capabilities of the CH-53K, the U.S. Marine Corps’ newest heavy lift helicopter. The CH-53K will replace the CH-53E “Super Stallion,” which has served the Marine Corps for 40 years, and will transport Marines, heavy equipment and supplies during ship-to-shore movement in support of amphibious assault and subsequent operations ashore.
