Established in 1898 during the Spanish-American war, the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps remains the most versatile and decorated of any rating in the Navy with 39 different Navy Enlisted Classifications, 23 Congressional Medals of Honor, 179 Navy Crosses, 959 Silver Stars, and over 1,600 Bronze Stars. Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen provide Marine Corps units with the capability of medical services in all environments and conditions. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward deployed combat unit that serves as III MEF’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
