SAN DIEGO (June 21, 2021) Vice Adm. Stephen Koehler, right, commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, presents the Legion of Merit to Rear Adm. Philip Sobeck, commander, Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 3 during a change of command ceremony onboard Naval Base Point Loma, June 21. Rear Adm. Wayne Baze relieved Sobeck as commander of ESG 3 during the ceremony. ESG 3 provides regional and combatant commanders with an agile, tailorable, forward-postured and immediately employable force, capable of projecting expeditionary striking power in the maritime, littoral, and inland environs in support of U.S. national interests.
