U.S. Marines and sailors with Battalion Landing Team 3/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), perform a blood transfusion during a helicopter raid training exercise on Ie Shima, June 18, 2021. The training exercise consisted of Marines taking control of a known location inserting by a CH-53E Super Stallion. During the exercise, Marines sustained notional casualties where they were transported to amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) where the Fleet Surgical Team 7 provided further treatment. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
