Capt. Steven W. Antcliff, commanding officer of the Naval Submarine School, presents Lt. Stephen Smith with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal as an end-of-tour award at a ceremony onboard Naval Submarine Base New London on June 22, 2021. Smith served as the basic and advanced weapons and operations instructor in Naval Submarine School's Fleet Training Department. He was responsible for the education and qualification of submarine officers in the Submarine Officer Basic Course as well as the Submarine Officer Advanced Course. Smith provided countless hours of instruction to junior officers and future department heads, and was selected as "best instructor" by his students on multiple occasions.
