Damage is visible at the Church of the Holy Saviour of All in Gyumri, Armenia, then called Leninakan, following a devastating magnitude-6.8 earthquake that hit the region in December 1988. The region remains prone to the impacts seismic activity and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District -- in support of the U.S. European Command and in close coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Armenia – is managing three fire and rescue station projects in the region to improve both day-to-day and large-scale emergency response capabilities.
