Mosul Airport Reopens for Commercial Flights After 14 Years

A security agent on Dec. 2 inspects an Iraqi Airways flight at the Mosul Airport shortly before it left to carry 148 passengers on a religious pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The departure marked the first commercial flight to leave Mosul since U.S. military forces declared the city a no-fly zone in 1993.
